There are three main types:
- Festoon systems with flat cable.
- Enclosed conductor systems.
- Cable reels.
FESTOON SYSTEMS WITH FLAT CABLE
They consist of a beam that runs parallel to the crane runway. A series of small size trolleys supporting flat or round hoses hang all along the beam .
These systems are supplied with clips, cable lamps, supports, etc.
ENCLOSED CONDUCTOR SYSTEMS
They consist of a PVC beam which runs parallel to the crane raceway. These systems feature multiple conductors, typically square copper plates (three phase and safety ground) in variable amount depending on specific needs.
A current collector running along the inner face of the beam controls the power supply to the crane or hoist.
These systems are supplied with clips, cable clamps, supports, etc.
CABLE REELS
They are reels around which round supply power cable is paid out and retrieved.
Depending on the runway (straight or curve), the cable reel can be installed in a fixed position or with a pivot base that rotates to payout or retract the necessary cable length for each application.
There are electric or spring powered cable reels.
In all three cases hoses and plates are selecting according to the maximum acceptable intensity, engine power, starting mechanism, length, etc.
All three systems can be used in both straight and curved runways.
The cable reel is used in case of runway changes and, specially, for outdoors gantry cranes.
